Eye to Eye – Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle

Drawing on personal experiences with visual impairment and visual disturbances, Eye to Eye explores the subjectivity of vision and the question of how differently reality is perceived. 

The collection engages with phenomena such as blurriness, distortion, and double vision, translating them into silhouettes through design. Familiar garment forms serve as a starting point, their appearanceshifted, blurred, or slightly distorted when viewed through a lens. Inspired by eye tests, ocular structures, and colour perception, the collection transforms these impressions into textile surfaces, material manipulations, eyeglass lenses, and knitwear. 

Eye to Eye uses fashion as a medium to make subjective perception visible and to question habitual ways of seeing. 

In her creative practice, Valeska Renate Stegerwald combines technology, craftsmanship, and design. After completing vocational training as a garment technical assistant and as a textile and fashionseamstress, she studied fashion design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in summer 2025.[Text Wrapping Break]Her work focuses on draping, pattern development, and material experimentation, with a particular interest in form, proportion, and textile surface. Everyday observations often serve as a starting point and are translated intoreduced silhouettes.
