In Other Words – Fachhochschule Bielefeld
As a fashion designer I focus on draping and experimental pattern cutting. I like to draw inspiration from subjects that seem detached from fashion, such as language, exploring how they can be translated into wearable garments. A restrained color palette is central to my work, allowing construction, silhouette, and details to become the primary focus.
“In Other Words” is a collection that explores letters as a medium of interpersonal
exchange. Letters require thoughts and emotions to be translated into words, often leading the writer to reconsider, rephrase, and search for alternative ways to express meaning. This process of finding “other words” becomes the central concept behind the collection.Just as language can be rewritten and interpreted in different ways, the garments in the collection are reimagined through alternative design methods and techniques. The collection focuses specifically on formalwear, a category of clothing that is traditionally defined by strict western tailoring rules, precise pattern-cutting methods, and established rules of construction. These structures are deliberately disregarded to offer new perspectives on familiar silhouettes, creating garments that feel both recognisable and unfamiliar.,,In other Words’’ reflects how meaning is shaped not only by what is communicated but by
how it is expressed.
