The Presentation of Self – AMD Akademie Mode & Design

In the collection “The Presentation of Self,” identity is negotiated as a social performance—a form of service to society, its codes, expectations, and prescribed roles. The works revolve around the question ofhow we present ourselves in everyday life in order to belong, to function, or to be seen: by adopting assigned roles, but also by embodying those we aspire to be—or believe ourselves to be. 

At its core stands a generation navigating pressure, precarity, and constant demands. Each figure in the collection embodies a specific strategy for coping with these tensions. The High Performer definesthemselves through productivity and success, the Tradwife seeks fulfillment in traditional role models, the Drop Out withdraws from societal expectations, while the Beauty Addict pursues visibility and recognition through the continuous construction and optimization of appearance. 

Together, they form an ensemble of characters that reveals less individual personalities than collective stances and coping mechanisms. They represent the roles we assume in order to find orientation, gainrecognition, or respond to the demands of our time. Between adaptation and resistance, self-optimization and withdrawal, they negotiate the question of how identity is constructed and performed today. 

The collection reveals that self-staging is far more than surface. It becomes a survival strategy: a daily practice oscillating between self-assertion and self-erasure. 

Tina Trinh successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design at AMD Akademie Mode und Design Hamburg in February 2026. She was awarded Best Graduate of her year. Her Work also receivedparticular recognition from an external jury member and highlighted her exeptional abilities in patternmaking. She possessed an exceptionally intuitive and independant creative approach. Particularly remarkable areher strong visual sensivity, conceptual flexibility and her talent in garment construction.
