EAT, SLEEP, WORK, DIE

Work rules our lives. It´s influence seems rigid and relentless, but in the past years, it has slowly been reshaped by persistent changes. The younger generations are trying to break free from its entrenched structures and redefine “Work”. At the same time, many overlooked fields are still fighting for the recognition they deserve. This fight embodies the core of this collection. Upcycling of workwear, bright neon-colors and asymmetrical silhouettes show the ambivalence in our relationship with “Work”. What exactly is “Work”? How do we define it? Or does it define us? Howmuch does it exceed over us?

Eat, sleep, work, die.
All feels the same.

Work. This topic has been playing a rather big role in the past months. After a finished my bachelor´s degree as a Design Engineer for Fashion at HS Niederrhein with this collection, it was time to look for work. Considering my apprenticeship as a tailor and this degree, I spent over 6 years preparing for this to start my career in all sorts of different fields. From product development to design. And, well… let´s say this process made me doubt all my life decisions more than once. In the meantime, I am now a happy product developer for PPE (personal protective equipment), but getting there was a lot more difficult than I anticipated. Many other people are currently making the same experience. And I can´t help but wonder: should “work” really be this complicated?
