Subscapes in Fashion – AMD Akademie Mode & Design

We met during our studies at the AMD in Wiesbaden and quickly began having very productive thought exchanges, discussing fashion and our own projects with one another. Working and talking together felt very natural to us since we both liked what the other one was doing and we had a similar understanding of fashion, concept and aesthetics. Last year prior to our final semester we then decided we wanted to try working on a collection together – which led to our collection „Subscapes in Fashion“.

The collection “Subscapes in Fashion” was inspired by an exhibition at the Noguchi Museum in New York, in which works by the sculptor Isamu Noguchi were exhibited under the title “Noguchi Subscapes”. The term “Subscapes” refers to an essay by the designer George Nelson with the title “Notes on the New Subscape”. In It Nelson describes the subscape as the landscape that extends beneath his furniture and usually remains hidden from view. Based on this, the collection explores the idea of hidden spaces in fashion.
