Redefining Identity – Hochschule Reutlingen

Redefining Identity ist eine Upcycling-Couture-Kollektion, die fast ausschließlich aus gebrauchten Textilien besteht. Diese thesis basiert auf der Idee, dass beispielsweise die Bedeutung und Verwendung von Kleidung immer wieder neu definiert werden kann. Beim Upcycling werden unterschiedliche Materialien so zusammengebracht und geformt, dass man oft nicht versteht, woher die ursprünglichen Materialien stammen. Mit meiner Kollektion wollte ich genau diese Idee aufgreifen und die größten Kontraste schaffen. Dafür habe ich alte Herrenhemden verwendet und zu Couture-Kleidern verarbeitet. Inspiriert vom Schwanensee-Ballett wurden die Looks entsprechend elegant und die Assoziationen der Herrenhemden wurden mit Worten wie elegant, fließend und weich neu definiert.

Redefining Identity is an upcycling couture collection consisting almost exclusively of used textiles. This thesis stems from the idea that the meaning and use of clothing, for example, can always be redefined. With upcycling, different materials are brought together and shaped in such a way that one often does not understand where the original materials came from. With my bachelor collection I wanted to take up exactly this idea and create the greatest contrasts. For this I used old men’s shirts and processed them into couture dresses. Inspired by the Swan Lake ballet, the looks became appropriately elegant and the associations of the men’s shirts were redefined with words like elegant, flowing and soft.
