I am Just a Boy – Kunstuniversität Linz
“I am Just a Boy” centres on the image of a boy at the beach.
Marc Dudek investigates how clothing and bodily presence become socially charged and interpreted before the person wearing them fully understands their own appearance. Referencing selected works by Mel Roberts and Pippa Garner, as well as photographic series of Hans Eijkelboom, the collection reflects visual practices in which individuality, ambiguity, presence and interpretation coexist.
Typical menswear archetypes such as classic shirts, trousers and tailoring details are reworked and paired alongside boyhood and beach references such as striped towels and exposed skin.
The beach sphere and the formal spectrum of menswear collide within the same silhouettes, where towel-like drapes confront tailored elements,
Marc Dudek is a Fashion & Technology graduate whose work centres on social codes and the sensitive analysis and reinterpretation of archetypes.
With previous training in tailoring and garment construction, shaped by experience across design, styling, editorial and luxury retail, his practice is informed by a range of influences and a continuous fascination with the industry, from initial design to final marketed product.
He engages with stereotypes and established social codes through subtle irony and humour, consistently expressing an instinctive sense of understated elegance and precision within his sartorial practice.
