Lucia Miehe is a Fashion Design student at Hochschule Hanover. Besides fashion, she is particularly interested in art and the connection between fashion and artistic practice. During an Erasmus year in Birmingham, she had the opportunity to explore new techniques and sustainable approaches to design. A six-month internship at Armedangels also provided valuable insights into the working methods of a larger fashion company as well as
the technical aspects of product development. In her projects, she enjoys working with colour, patterns, and material experimentation. She is particularly interested in the relationship between creative design and hands-on craftsmanship in the sewing process, as well as the exchange between analogue and digital ways of working.

The collection combines personal memories of childhood and adolescence with the surreal motifs found in Leonora Carrington’s The Debutante. At its core is the process of growing up, explored through the tension between freedom and conformity, self-discovery and societal expectations. By merging nostalgic childhood references—particularly those shaped by sports and swimming—with themes of masquerade, transformation, and deformation, the collection creates a visual exploration of identity and the transition into adulthood.The conceptual starting point of the project is the life stage commonly referred to as the “midtwenties.” This period is often characterised by a wide range of life paths and personal
trajectories: while some people start families or begin their professional careers, others are still searching for direction and identity.
Materiality and construction also play an important role in the design process. Several garments developed into near zero-waste constructions almost unintentionally, helping to minimise fabric waste. In addition, handcrafted iron details were incorporated into the vollection. The material contributes a sustainable and artisanal dimension to the work while creating a contrast to the softer and more nostalgic references within the collection.
