NEED A RIDE? – Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle

Driving styles reflect emotions and the inner self. NEED A RIDE? stages a fictional race against oneself and translates six facets into different driving styles. Shaped by circumstances and emotions, changing personalities become racing drivers who reflect personal highs and lows. The collection was inspired, among others, by Michèle Mouton, one of the most renowned women in motorsport. The silhouettes incorporate elements of motorsport clothing and translate their dynamism into the collection through draping and deconstruction. The iconic houndstooth pattern runs throughout the looks as a recurring element and, through various techniques such as roller printing, laser details, and appliqué details, tells the story of the different driving styles. Materials such as heavy leather, fine wool, and elegant taffeta further emphasize the connection between sportiness, elegance, and emotional tension.

Lea Baz sees fashion as a medium for translating emotions into expressive silhouettes and intricate details. Her projects often emerge from experimentation, reflection, and
observation, gradually evolving into fully developed concepts throughout the design process. She develops her work through digital collages and mock-ups, sketches, and material-based experimentation.
Alongside a collection exploring 3D body scans, glitches, and the translation of digital media into textiles, Lea Baz’s work generally exists between playful experimentation and transformative silhouettes while remaining grounded in wearability. Her garments are often developed through draping and frequently incorporate elements drawn from sportswear.
Before completing her Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Lea Baz attended the Werkbund in Nuremberg, where she gained experience in glass, wood, and metalworking. Throughout her studies, she continued to work beyond textiles, using these materials to explore new techniques and
expand the range of her portfolio. In the future, she aims to further develop her expertise in garment construction and prototyping, with a particular interest in leathergoods, in order to expand both her creative
and technical practice.
