At some point, we begin to disguise ourselves. We adapt, we meet expectations. We become what others want to see in us. Piece by piece, a shell forms over us, until we ourselves barely know what truly lies beneath. Where the Light Breaks is about the courage to stop hiding what we really are. About the moment a first crack appears and light breaks through. It is the moment we stop being actors in our own lives. 

My name is Alexandra Illa, and I’m a Bachelor’s graduate from Reutlingen
University. In my collections, I increasingly turn to psychological themes,
which I love to explore conceptually on a very deep level. I draw my
inspiration from everyday life and from nature. What I love most is developing
my own unique materials through fabric manipulation and a lot of
experimentation. That’s probably also why knitwear has accompanied and
fascinated me ever since the start of my studies. I most enjoy working with
experimental structures, giving myself the room to experiment and try things
out.
