Handstraußregel – Kunstuniversität Linz

The “Handstraußregel” (hand-bouquet rule) means taking only what you need and valuing seasonal abundance. Inspired by his upbringing in the Austrian countryside, David Schuch explores a future of more conscious consumption and production. His collection transforms local, overlooked resources, such as surplus fruit and wool from non-commercial sheep, into valuable materials. Handmade bio-leathers from apricots, apples, and cherries, combined with alginate and wool, replace conventional textiles. Timeless silhouettes inspired by his grandfather’s wardrobe unite traditional craftsmanship with innovative, wearable design. 

David Schuch is an Austrian designer living in Linz. His work revolves around structure and haptics of different materials, as well as a sustainable approach to fashion. Schuch´s approach focuses on bringing new fabrics into a fashion context, using a mixture of technology and design.
