Lights On – Hochschule Macromedia Berlin-Hamburg

This collection focuses on escapism, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of dystopian
and fantasy films. In times of social anxiety, people often reach for coping mechanisms to
find ways to escape the realities in which they live. These might not be inherently bad, but
they can spiral and take over one’s life in a negative way.

This collection uses fashion design as a way of world-building,with the concept of an
underground club; each look represents a patron with a specific form of escapism. The vices
are self-isolation, substance abuse, sex, obsession with beauty and body modification, and
material greed. Each look conveys the negative nature of these coping mechanisms and the
draw they have for people.

The designs envoke the initial glamour of the vice, while hints of the downfall that comes
with it. Exploring the attraction of escapism and the consequences of relying on unhealthy
coping mechanisms. The party will always have to end, and the lights will turn on, and we all
have to come back to reality.

Dalilah Winter is a soon to be graduate of fashion design Macromedia University of applied
Sciences

Her love for fashion began as a personal form of communication, a way to connect with the
world and express complex ideas through visual and material storytelling. She is passionate
about using fashion as a medium to explore narratives, challenge perceptions, and convey
meaningful messages.

One of her earliest inspirations was designer Alexander McQueen, whose ability to combine
theatrical presentation with cultural and social critique continues to influence her creative
approach. She also takes much inspiration from film and theatre costumes.

Specializing in womenswear, she creates garments that are theatrical yet modern, with a
focus on femininity viewed through the lenses of feminism, cultural criticism, and storytelling.

Her design process always begins with a compelling topic or theme, which she explores
through sketching, research, and experimentation with various artistic mediums. From
concept to construction, each piece is driven by a clear narrative and message.

As a designer, Dalilah is committed to creating work that resonates with her audience,
pieces that not only reflect her perspective but also evoke thought, emotion, and dialogue.
She sees fashion as an evolving language, and through it, aims to continue telling stories
that matter to her.
