Selfish Grief – Hochschule Macromedia Berlin-Hamburg

My name is Clara Pauckstadt, I am 21 years old and I am studying fashion design at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, where I am currently about to complete my bachelor’s degree.

I have been fascinated by textile craftsmanship and design for many years. The opportunity to create something independent – something that previously only existed in my imagination – has opened up a new creative world for me. From the very beginning, my goal was not only to gain theoretical knowledge, but also to grow through practical experience and interdisciplinary insights into the fashion industry. In the course of my studies, I developed a keen sense for conveying personal stories through creative means and carefully crafted details. Each of my designs is characterized by individual emotions and experiences. However, this personal approach also opens up universal perspectives – because fashion can be more than just clothing: it offers space for reflection, expression and social relevance

My collection ‘Selfish Grief’ describes the feeling of finally allowing and exploring your own grief after a loss. It shows the process of growing with it and learning to accept the grief. The six outfits in the Ready – to – wear collection symbolize the emotional stages of grief. The screen printing process and the use of knitwear require a long period of preparation and execution, which is why these techniques were used as a design methodological equivalent to the unconscious and protracted healing process. ‚Selfish Grief‘ is a creative exploration that encourages self-reflection and in this way breaks the social taboo surrounding ‘grief’.
