Dream Diary – Hochschule Macromedia Berlin-Hamburg
“Dream Diary” is a collection that implements dream symbolism, night terrors, insomnia, and mythological creatures onto the fashion design looks. The collection pulls a viewer in this dream-like state to perceive a confusion, not fully understanding details and out of the conscious world silhouettes.
The silhouettes are manifested through different forms, metal pieces, material connections like leather and linen, fabric manipulations (e.g. the knitwear that looks like fur). Representation of dreams as well do happen in the collection – a top fully made of threads is a transfer onto real world from a nightmare that had happened to my dearest friend. The dreams talk about eyes popping out of the head and threads of colours of veins come out of the head and they’re infinite.
Overall “Dream diary” interprets variety of dreams on different grounds and different emotional states. It is an extremely peculiar and extraordinary view of our unconsciousness through fashion design practices.
My name is Alicja, I am a 22 year old from Poland, and I am deeply inspired by peciular and extraordinary topics. My biggest fashion designer role model was always Alexander McQueen. My parents own a sewing factory that I spent most of my times growing up, and those seamstresses planted this seed of love for sewing since I was six years old. However, throughout my teenage years it developed more into fashion design. Growing up in Easter European country it has taught me a lot… but most importantly that each story has two sides and the truth is always in between. The relevance from my collection to my personal story is that I have been struggling deeply all my life with night terrors and insomnia and it has influenced on my life in various ways. Psychology, symbolism, odd shapes and materials is the essence of my work that I have been proceeding with.
