Back of House – Hochschule Macromedia Berlin-Hamburg

Jillian Stein is a Canadian fashion designer based in Berlin, currently completing her Bachelor’s degree at Atelier Chardon Savard (Macromedia University). Growing up in Berlin, she developed a deep appreciation for fashion as a narrative medium. Her work explores the intersection of clothing and storytelling, often drawing inspiration from costume design and the theatrical potential of garments. Her graduate collection reflects a continued interest in fashion’s ability to construct identity, atmosphere, and emotion through material and form.

“Back of House,” explores the aesthetics of the fine dining industry and those who work within it. Specifically, deconstructing the structural elements traditional chefs’ uniforms and interpreting them through different stages of a French tasting menu. Each look is inspired both literally and abstractly by the textures, materials, and silhouettes by the various courses. “Back of House” seeks to turn the attention to the artistic quality of chefs and highlight the intense skill and dedication to craft in high level restaurants.
