My name is Mailinh Vu and I am 24 years old, I was born in germany but have vietnamese roots. My journey into fashion began unexpectedly. As a child, I was not interested in fashion at all. In fact, I disliked it because my mother and brother usually chose my clothes for me. Fashion did not feel like a way to express myself. Everything changed when I discovered video games. Through their characters, worlds, and visual storytelling, I became interested in design and aesthetics. This curiosity eventually led me to study fashion. The more I learned, the more passionate I became. Fashion transformed into a powerful medium through which I could communicate ideas, emotions, and personal experiences. For my graduate collection, I wanted to tell a story that is deeply personal to me: my experience of the Yagi Typhoon that struck Vietnam in 2024. Witnessing the destruction of my hometown, the loss of homes, and the impact on countless lives left a lasting impression on me. Through this collection, I want to honor the strength and resilience of everyone who endured the aftermath of the storm. It is a tribute to those who rebuilt their lives despite hardship and uncertainty. At the same time, the project reflects my connection to Vietnamese culture. The solidarity and perseverance I witnessed after the disaster made me appreciate the resilience of the Vietnamese people more than ever before.
This collection is about loss, hope, and the strength to move forward.
