Outgrowing explores the process of distancing oneself from societal, capitalist, and familial influences. At its core, the collection is not about complete liberation, but about engaging with inherited values and questioning them.
Many ideas about who we should be, how we should behave, and what defines success are shaped in childhood and often absorbed unconsciously. Only later do we begin to question which values and patterns of behaviour truly belong to us and which have simply been adopted from our surroundings.
The collection investigates the moments in which these influences become visible and begin to break apart. Rather than presenting a linear development, it explores different states between conformity, resistance, and transformation.
Through deconstruction, material experimentation, and natural processes of change, the garments reveal tensions between structure and body, control and self-determination. Lace, latex, layered surfaces, copper oxidation, and crystal growth become symbols of pressure, transformation, and growth. Outgrowing understands clothing as a surface on which personal and societal influences become visible and where they can begin to change.

Latifa Lumb is a fashion design student at HAW Hamburg. Her work explores themes of identity, transformation, and the relationship between the body, materiality, and social structures. She is particularly interested in experimental material processes and in how internal experiences can be translated into form, texture, and construction. Through material transformation, unconventional surfaces, and the reinterpretation of familiar garments, she creates pieces that exist between vulnerability and control.
Her graduate collection Outgrowing examines the process of distancing oneself from societal, capitalist, and family-imposed values. Through deconstruction, oxidation, crystal growth, and the interplay of rigid and soft materials, the collection explores different states of change, resistance, and self-discovery. For her, fashion is a medium for making personal and social experiences visible.
